Learning at Home: May 7, 2020

By now you may all have heard that the Governor has declared that all schools remain closed until the end of this academic school year. This includes Ezra Academy, Montessori Preschool. Though this seems the correct thing to do in light of all the information we have access to, it leaves us saddened at the thought that a hurried and unclear good-bye mid-March paved the way for at home learning for the months to come.

We hang on to the hope that we can return in the summer for camp.  We will let everyone know for sure once that information is made explicitly clear to us, one way or another. And hopefully we will know that SOON.  In the meantime, we continue to send activities, Zoom meetings, Youtube videos and Facetime offers to you.

If we are able to return for camp; within guidelines of maintaining social distancing / maintaining small groups, we WILL extend an invitation to EVERYONE to try to get together (even if we have to divide into  groups) in a GET TOGETHER END OF 20/21 SCHOOL YEAR HOORAH (though it may feel more like a HELLO...)

ACTIVITIES for Thursday...
Well, this Sunday, May 10 is Mother's Day and June 21 is Father's Day, and there are so many days to celebrate life and lovein between!  Check out the two attachments to make for mom, for dad, for grandparents, or anyone you'd like to share the love with. (If Mom prefers to refer these attachments to dad, don't open!  Tell dad to open! )

Language:
Draw a big heart outline.  Inside, ask your child what they love. Make suggestions as necessary. Ideas: dog, dad, mom, cat, candy, cake, sun, child writes the words, or says the words and the adult writes the words. If possible have your child think about what the word starts with ('You love your cat? What do you hear when I say c-at?' Then write the word for your child, saying the individual sounds as you write. Your child can draw pictures of each word, next to the words.

Number:
Go outside and gather 8 leaves (from the same tree), 8 blades of grass, 8 little stones, 8 little twigs.
Place all together, mix up and then sort.
Extension:Make patterns (twig, leaf, stone, twig, leaf, stone, twig, leaf, stone...)
Adult can make a pattern and the child continues the pattern.

Art:
Coffee Filter Sun catcher
             Coffee Filters

To make your own coffee filter sun catcher, use your washable markers to color your coffee filter.  Wide markers work best.

Also, for the best results you want to make sure there is color on almost the whole filter.

Once the filter is completely colored, place it on several paper towels.  The paper towels will reduce the mess.

Use a squirt bottle to spray the filter.  Almost immediately you will see the colors start to spread.

Once dry, cut out into a flower shape and tape onto the window.

Insects, Bugs, and Creepy Crawlers Themed Yoga Pose Ideas

Bee Pose

Start in tall kneeling. Reach out to the side with both arms.  Lean side to side like a bee flying.  Add BZZZZ if you would like!

Grasshopper Pose

Start standing with your feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart.  Lower down into a squat position and hold.  Return to standing position or jump! Repeat.

Worm Pose

Lay flat on your back with your legs squeezed together.  Point your toes.  Prop yourself on your elbows keeping your hands on the floor. Lift your belly and chest off the ground.  Let your head rest back (it can gently touch the floor).  Hold and breathe.

Dragonfly Pose

Lay down on your tummy. Place your hands under your shoulders.  Lift up one leg into the air.  Use your opposite foot to try to get your leg even higher by placing it on the thigh of your leg that is in the air. Repeat on the opposite side.
