This Week in 7 and 8, Oct. 21

Oh my goodness! We have had such an amazing time using our survey about elections during Civics. We have analyzed the data and compared it with the same surveys the teachers did. As a class, we are choosing to expand the survey to 20 questions, and are going to try and reach a consensus as to what the new survey will look like. To decide to continue on with this project we used a line on the ground from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree.” It certainly helped to inform our decision and to reflect on the process we used to get to the decision.

We began learning about the period of the destruction of the 2nd Temple in Jewish History. Students learned about three different groups that were active during this time period, the Essenes, the Sadducees, and the Pharisees.

In Algebra I part 2, students are investigating the applications of exponents and exponential functions and starting to prepare for a quiz.

We continued our discussion of Maoism in language arts as a setting for a short story called ‘A Field of Rice.’ We also discussed author’s purpose using this story as an example.

In Judaics, we have been studying why the Jewish people needed the Mishnah and we began learning our first mishnah. We will be starting a course entitled “Debates for the Sake of Heaven.”

This week was history week in music class and we learned about native aboriginal Australian music as well as more modern Folk & Bush music! Our performer was Joey on the big xylophone and our Mimi Award winners were Eleaner and Miri!
