This Week in 5 and 6, 11-19

In geography, we are now studying our very colorful neighbor to the South, Mexico.  We watched a short travelogue about the top places in Mexico that are beloved by tourists as an introduction to the country and on Thursday, we did group work on the history and culture of Mexico.  On Friday we will discuss the civilizations of the Aztec and Maya, including their amazing architecture, like the pyramids at Chichen Itza.

In science class, we brought back an old favorite -string telephones as we learned about controlled and manipulated variables. Just some of the variables we tested were changing the size of the cup, changing the kind of cup, changing the kind of string, changing the diameter of string, changing the length of the string,  but in general,  I think the conclusion was that it was a success. I appreciated a shout down the hall, “it worked!” Even if the other teachers did not!

This week we played Orchestra Instrument Bingo in music(identifying instruments in the 4 sections of an orchestra) and worked on vocal technique and music for the Chanukah Production. We also had a beautiful piano performance from Jacob.

In language arts, we are writing advice columns for the protagonist in our novel. She could really use some help!

In Hebrew, the students have been working on a Hebrew song, which is pictured above.
