18 May

The first thing we did was go to tfilla in the desert. Instead of a traditional Amidah, we each found a place to sit and listened to the various sounds of nature, it was very peaceful. We then went to the grave of David Ben Gurion and his wife Paula. We talked about what a fascinating man he was, and about his vision of terraforming and populating the Negev. Next was a hike in Ein Ovdat. There were many uphill steps but it was a fun challenge. Making it to the top was quite an accomplishment.   A prepared lunch was enjoyed by all of us at a nice park.   We then went to Shvil Hasalat, an educational program that teaches about farming and agricultural system in Israel. The method for growing strawberries was surprisingly sophisticated, and the carrots were quite colorful.   After that, we met a blacksmith who uses missiles from Gaza to make art, specifically roses.   Later at the kibbutz, everyone hung out for some time.   Some people hung out with non-humans (cats) such as Tabitha, Louise, Josephina, and Timmy. We started talking about our class’s departure. It got very emotional. As I am writing people are partying and I am joining them in 3, 2, 1,

Wow, I have never been to that agricultural center; I can’t wait to hear all about it. School has been quiet without you, so I hope you are coming back ready to make some noise!
