Last week the 4th and 5th graders made clouds! We have been learning about the water cycle, and ma clouds demonstrated the first two steps of the water cycle – evaporation and condensation. This is an easy activity to repeat at home. First, find a large, wide mouth jar and fill it with about 1 inch of very warm water. Second light a match, place it inside the jar and blow it out. You can drop the match into the water. Then quickly place a pie plate with ice on top of the jar. You will see a cloud start to appear at the top of the jar near the ice! As the warm water evaporates and turns into water vapor, it rises. As it
nears the top of the jar it cools back into water and condenses on the smoke particles creating the cloud.
