Students in 2/3 had so much fun today learning about the metric system through the Olympics.
They read the amazing true story of Wilma Rudolph, talked about the Olympics, found Rio de Janeiro on the map, and talked about the fact that measurement is done using the metric system in most of the world. Then they got into teams and tried out different events. There was the paper plate discus, the straw javelin, the right-handed sponge squeeze, and the big foot contest. They used their estimation and measurement skills. The athletes then enjoyed some refreshing watermelon. Tomorrow we will have our medal ceremony!
