02 May

Day 8. Tuesday, May 2, 2017

As usual the morning began with teffilah, but this morning was extra special as we all wore a beautiful blue and white kippah, a gift from Raz & Yotom, our emmisarries parents. Today the Ezra-Kellman group went on three amazing and unique adventures and participated in Israel-themed trivia on the way to and from each adventure. The first one was the Arbel hike where we climbed down rocky terrain.  There were wires and handles built into the mountainside to help us. This hike was challenging for some because it including rungs and ladders. The rest if the hike was meadows, near cliffs where we saw wild horses and a bull. After the Arbel hike, we continued onto the Majrase where we ate our kibbutz made lunches that we packed earlier that morning. At this location, we hiked through the water waist high (for some of us) and took in the beautiful view while trying not to fall on one of the rocks. After Majrase, we kept our swim gear on for the next adventure, but first the teachers surprised us with a surprise ice cream stop. Kfar Blum rafting in the Jordan River was our next destination. We paddled our way through the mostly shallow waters and came across only one rapid during the river.   We took in the views of many Israelis celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut with barbecues as we played in the river learning to navigate our rafts, some of us were better than others.  We returned back to Kibbutz Degania Bet. There we prepared our own BBQ dinner as a celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut. We all sat together and enjoyed our meal prepared by our trip advisors, Tani and Sarah. We were later summoned together where we learned that the winner to answer the most trivia questions correct was Noam!! Tomorrow we are leaving the Kibbutz and heading north. We will catch up with you again then!

Sincerely,

Eviatar, Jaden, Morah Amalya, Nurse Carolyn, and the entire Ezra 8th Grade

I have interesting children. Miss reading about yesterday but hope all is great…gesunderheit, enjoy! As for us here, news from Lake Wobegon: I took a one hour bike ride on the Farmington Canal, thanks to my new thule bike rack. That’s about it! Love you! MOM PS: Trump is still President. PPS (related to the above PS): try (even harder than before) not to get sick or injured, along with others in our nuclear family, as this just in, hot off the press: House Passes Republican Health Care Bill, (God Help Us). Love, Mom

Noam has such a trivial mind 🙂 Noam, stay in Israel as long as you want, but I miss that hot-pink hippo, please send it home already! Also please smuggle some of those fresh-picked greens home in your socks for my salad. Thank you.

Glad to see that everyone is still smiling. Looks and sounds like you had an exciting hike up the mountain. I’m jealous! I am near Denver now, so have a great view of the mountains (mine are snow covered), but spending my days inside listening to research talks, so no time to hike them. Ali, miss you and love you!! -Dad

    Dimitri,
I hope you had a great day. I can’t see you in any of the photos- did you get swept away by the Jordan River?

Sounds like another awesome adventure. Did you have fun on the hike and water adventures? How high did the water come up on you?

I hope you are getting enough sleep over there. We are all very excited to welcome you back on Monday!

    Have a great day tomorrow.

    Love,
    Dad

Jacob, love you and miss you! mom

  • Ashkenazi May 4, 2017 at 12:03 am

I dont know why, but reading your adventures sounded to me like: “Veni Vidi Vici” (“I came, I saw, I conquered” . Caesar), especially the “conquering” of Mount Arbel part. Wow, how much energy you must of have…
Cooling in the Jordan river water felt probably great after.
Eviatar, I am happy to READ that you weren’t forgotten anywhere on the road, because I couldn’t really tell if you were there. Please stop from time to time whatever you are doing, and get into the pictures.
I hope you had a good “Al Haesh”/Mangal/BBQ (no, too American) as it is a Yom Haazmaut Israeli tradition.
Cant wait to see your smiling face. Love you. Mom

  • Lisa May 3, 2017 at 10:00 pm

Dear Lexi, what an amazing day this seems. I love that you saw wild horses—not to even mention the hiking! The one I saw today is named Wendy, but she was indoors and I figure the setting was a little different. I love you. Aunt Lisa

  • Linda Berg May 3, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Sounds like you are having an amazing time! I remember doing a trip with my family to the north one summer and rafting down the Dan River. We had the best time!
Please give my best to Matan Koby Weiner. I want to hear all about him on your return.
We miss you all! Enjoy every moment and every mouthful!

  • Jackie Bogdanoff May 3, 2017 at 3:54 pm

Ah, the Mount Arbel hike and rafting…I loved that hike and remember it well. I also remember that I was nervous about rafting the “rapids” because I had never been and I think I handled that one rapid very well. Don’t you Amalya? Woo, arms up and smile for the camera! Miss you all.
    XXOO Jackie

  • The Bruders May 3, 2017 at 3:43 pm

Libyy – Nice to see you still standing after all that hiking. What an incredible adventure. We can’t wait to hear from you again on Friday. We love you and miss you!

  • Cathy Sutherland May 3, 2017 at 1:46 pm

All this hiking is certainly getting you ready for the mile run on the morning of May 10th. See you when you get back. Enjoy your wonderful trip.

  • Joshua Sapire May 3, 2017 at 10:51 am

Noah – where r u? Only a few more days left. The hike looks great and the views from the top spectacular! – will have to incorporate this into your wrestling training. Guessing the ice cream flavor you chose was chocolate. All is well at here at home. All our love – Dad, Mom & Ethan.

  • Gilda & Johny Vaserstein May 3, 2017 at 3:24 am

    Jacob,
that was some hiking you guys did. Your face in the picture tells it all, exhaustion from the hike & the heat.
Now you will understand how we in Miami feel in the summer heat.
Bet that ice cream shop felt like heaven.
    Continue enjoying, be safe.
    Love you,
    Baba & Babo

  • Dave Hass May 3, 2017 at 2:12 am

Sam – looks awesome! Looks like you’re enjoying every minute! Love the hat! Mybe we can put a hammock in your room next the swing! Say hey to Ofir!!! Love you! Daddy

  • Steven and Elizabeth Rosenberg May 3, 2017 at 1:01 am

Alexa – wow I think that hike might have prepared you for the Precipice in Acadia (at the very least “the gorge”.) You continue to look happy and it must have been very cool to go rafting in the river that is part of your namesake. It was fun to see Ezra celebrating today. Dad wants you to know the Bleeding Hearts have bloomed and they’ve never made it so far in a season as to not be picked by your little hands! I may be in luck for Mother’s Day. We can’t wait for you to get back home. Please try to photo bomb some shots so we can see more of you! And the pink hat…….Okay don’t want to embarrass you too much. We love you to the moon and back and want you to love every minute of this experience. ps….it looks like you have made a friend who looks like your twin! Love you forever, Mom & Dad

  • Gabe Levy May 3, 2017 at 12:45 am

Sheeba jumped up that mountain in a single bound!

  • Eli Levy May 3, 2017 at 12:43 am

    Jacob,
Whoa! Great picture of you climbing the mountainside. I’m sure your knees must have been hurting after that hike. Its so nice to see you having such a good time. Gabe and I really miss you and mom. We can’t wait to hear about tomorrow’s adventures.

  • Dr Melanie Waynik May 3, 2017 at 12:38 am

You go Noam!! Make Ezra proud!!

  • Sara Labowe May 2, 2017 at 11:12 pm

    Dear Jaden,
It was wonderful to speak with you on the phone today, honey! I love hearing your voice. You sound so happy and excited to be doing all that you are doing. How brave of you to hike once again on a a trail with rung and ladders! I am very impressed! Your experience rafting on the Jordan river sounds thrilling. I would have loved to have seen you and your raft-mates enjoying your “Pirates of the Jordan River” escapade. 🙂
As I said in my earlier post, how great it is that you have been able to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut in Israel and share the celebration with your schoolmates and new friends. I am very happy for you. Keep enjoying and learning and collecting those spiritual souvenirs.

    News here at home:
Elijah took his first Driver’s Ed class; Katya’s ECA graduation is in one month (B”H); Batsheva was elected VP at UCSB and she is preparing to go to Israel next month on BirthRight (B”H); Coco is enjoying his daily goodies of carrots, bell pepper and kale; our garden roses are so fragrant and pretty; the beach is warming up!!

And most important news from home:
    I MISS YOU VERY MUCH!

Sending all my love, hugs and kisses, too,
    Mom
    xoxoxo

    Allie
Wow, that looks like a really scary hike, but super awesome (especially since nobody plummeted to their death).
Dad went to his conference today, then 2 days in Denver with Aunt Karin and others. We all are missing you. Can’t wait to hear about everything!

    Mom

  • Charlie May 2, 2017 at 11:02 pm

Aaron (and Ben if you are still there
I see Aaron in one of the pictures but what have you done with Ben?
Anyhow, keep putting on your sunscreen and wearing your hat (you too Ben!)
I can’t wait to see you on Monday, but it is rather quiet with just Sophia hiding in (her/Ema’s) bathroom
    Love you guys so much!
    Aba

  • Miriam Benson May 2, 2017 at 10:43 pm

wow…yeah Noam…the more trivia the better! and yes, I definitely vote for surprise ice cream stops! in news from here: Dad spent the day chopping down branches and trees so the durned squirrels can no longer reach the roof and have big parties in lavish nests under and around our solar panels…Yom Haatzmaut at Ezra was fuunnnnnnnnnnnn but of course we missed and you and yours was probably even funner (bad grammar)(I know)(don’t show Ms. Murray); my activity involved the British explorers Charles Warren and Charles Wilson leading the expedition to excavate the Western Wall Tunnels…shoeboxes, a bucket, marble runs, fake coins, and Gilah’s Warren’s Gate were involved. Let’s see…that’s about it, now, off to book group at B & A mom’s house, and then…off to “sleep” XOXO PS: can someone remind me what OBM stands for?? I am wracking my brain trying to remember…oy…

  • Batsheva May 2, 2017 at 10:14 pm

  • The Ashkenazi's May 2, 2017 at 9:56 pm

Eviatar, was this like the camping in Maine? Was there someone to say “I can see the summit right there?”

  • Dr Phil May 2, 2017 at 8:51 pm

Still looks amazing much better than Connecticut I am sure. Have fun. Only a few more days until parental jurisdiction again (evil laugh). Have fun OBM.
